JANINE WHITLOCK transformed the event [womens pole-vault] in Britain.
An excellent sprinter, she raised the UK record from 3.90metres in 1996 to 4.40metres in 2001 and 4.44metres indoors in 2002. In June 2002 she cleared an outdoor record of 4.41metres at the Commonwealth Games Trials. In 2005 she improved her record to 4.47metres, her 44th national record indoors and out.
